The Amazon Kindle is an e-book reader. Seeing that students go through numerous books and resources for almost all aspects of their academic life, it is only safe to assume that an e-book reader will be an ideal tool for them. With Amazon’s Kindle e-book being tested as learning tool at colleges and universities today, it is only a matter of time before this device will become more common among students.
However, most of the features of the device were found out to be counter-productive in learning. For instance, it is impossible highlight or annotate PDF documents. Students rely on their annotations to aid in their research and doing this in the Kindle is a bit of an inconvenience. Another issue is the fact that it is impossible to open more than one document at a time. This is not a good since students often need to compare their notes and resources while studying or writing a paper.
Students have admitted that the device is more ideal for casual reading. But with the fast development of devices that aid in learning, we might soon have an e-book reader that will be perfect for students to use.
