Online Doctoral Nursing Programs

Tuesday, February 10, 2009 posted by Sandra Wrangell

A PhD in nursing is designed to prepare nurses who are committed to advancing the discipline of nursing through theory development, research, and other academic endeavors. The program molds graduates who provide leadership for the advancement of nursing in the service institutions, the academe, and the scientific community.

As a PhD graduate, a nurse will be expected to evaluate the theoretical concepts of nursing, critique contemporary research, design and evaluate original research, provide leadership in disseminating new knowledge, and collaborate with other scholars and nurses in the scientific community.

The requirements for online doctoral nursing programs are a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school, a Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school, a high grade point average, a resume, and a personal interview.

Some nursing programs offer online courses instead of classroom courses, or a combination of both to accommodate nursing professionals who cannot leave their jobs.
