Online PhD Universities
What is an Accredited Degree?
There is a lot of talk lately about accredited and non-accredited online universities, but what does that mean? It is simple: an accredited university is a school that is recognized and authorized by a local regulating agency as a real university. An accredited degree has been awarded using real credit hours from one of these schools.
Without proper accrediting you will be given a certificate of completion instead of a real degree. This is rarely held in such high regard, and can even be useless on a high education level. This is especially true of a PhD, which can only be awarded as a working degree by an authorized and fully accredited university.
What is a PhD?
A PhD is a degree level of the highest caliber. It is the last phase in the educational programs, and is also referred to as a doctorate. You can earn a PhD (or, in the medical equivalent, an MD) through an online program. However, it has to be fully accredited to mean anything, and so the right school has to be chosen.
