Getting a Doctorate

by Sandra Wrangell

An online degree is a great thing. It allows you to move forward in your career, and do so without sacrificing the one you currently have. But is it really as good when you are getting a PhD? It may seem a little dodgy to get a degree online when on a doctorate level, but nothing could be further from the truth. It is actually better.

Why is Getting a Doctorate Online Better?

You don’t have to sacrifice your career! When you go back to school you usually have to cut time from your work schedule to work around university classes. With an online course this isn’t a problem. You can work from home in your own time, getting your coursework and classes done without taking time away from your already busy career. You will also keep from taking time from your family, a major benefit.

Is an Online Doctorate Real?

Yes, getting a doctorate online is as real as getting one from a campus, and usually from the same schools. Universities have seen the benefit of adapting classes for online students, as distance learning becomes more popular. There is no difference between the two anymore, and since the programs are accredited your PhD will not say it was done online. It will only say it came from the university you choose.

Is a Doctorate Really Necessary?

Not always. Someone can do quite well for themselves with a masters. But if you want the benefits of expertise, yes, it is needed. For example, a consultant or professor must have a doctorate, as do those involved in research. Without one you will not get the job, and you will always be a step behind those that have one.
