This is a news magazine renowned for its rankings of higher education institutions and hospitals in the United States. Aside from these rankings of colleges and universities in general, US News & World Report also ranks colleges according to the fields of discipline in which one can earn a degree today.

Coming up with this list involves a lot of steps and several measuring systems. Aside from the academic quality, other factors considered are the schools’ avenues of research and overall quality of college experience offered.

In terms of quality, the indicators used are peer assessment, retention, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rate, and alumni giving rate. The indicator with the biggest weight is peer assessment. Data for this factor are gathered by conducting a survey with people in the academe as subjects. These subjects are considered to  be experts on degree programs and are in the best positions to judge a school’s quality of education.

Some of the schools listed have the same rank.
