PhD Program

by Caleb Rogers

For many of us who love academia or have a passion for our field, the idea of getting into and completing the relevant PhD program is a wistful dream.  But for most people, that dream is just assumed to be out of reach.

What stands between you and your PhD?

Your obstacles are probably not so different from those faced by most people who daydream of framing and hanging their doctorate diploma.

You have a career; quitting your job to pursue years of coursework, and then years of research for a dissertation, you’ve reasoned, is counter-productive.

You have a family and responsibilities; however rarefied your ambition of enrolling in a PhD program may be, it can hardly be admirable to abandon your responsibilities and take more time away from your family in order to balance a career and doctorate study.

These are the thoughts we’ve all had and sometimes they become so habitual that we forget there can be another way.  Have you considered applying to an online PhD program?  Did you even know there was such a thing?

Getting Your PhD: Entirely through Distance-Learning

That’s right.  You don’t have to relocate, face long commutes, or hours of lectures.  Of course, none of that changes the fact that getting your PhD is a demanding goal, and requires dedication and intellectual commitment.  But it was never dedication and intellectual commitment that you’ve lacked.  You’ve struggled with practicalities and logistics, and these are the obstacles that an online PhD program can effortlessly overcome.

You can even find accelerated PhD programs online.  These programs offer accelerated coursework (there’s no speeding up a dissertation, of course), with classes that last as little as six weeks apiece.  Even if you take only once class at a time, getting your PhD can be a reality, and not just a wistful dream.
