The dissertation must then be orally defended in front of your committee. Only after the committee approves  the dissertation and defense, will you have completed your program and have earned the title of Doctor.

With an on line PhD degree, many career opportunities will present themselves. Beyond the obvious career in academia as a university professor, you can also work outside academia in scientific research, publishing, or other fields. Bear in mind, competition for jobs as professors can be competitive. The rewards, however, are monumental, as you will typically earn several hundred thousand dollars more over your career than if you stopped at a master’s degree.
