Online PhD Degree
A common myth is that online PhD degree programs do not have the same stringent requirements that their traditional counterparts do. This is not the case, however. Online programs have the same requirements for completion as the campus based programs. Both require that students complete a series of coursework, as well as prepare and defend a dissertation.
The main difference between the two different types of programs is how the instruction is delivered. Online PhD programs typically deliver all of their coursework 100 percent online. This will vary by university, with some universities requiring that students perform a few short on campus residencies. These are usually seminar based and usually last no more than a week.
The dissertation process is almost identical between the two different types of programs. Students are typically assigned an academic advisor early in their PhD program. This advisor will help ensure that the student is on track and meeting all the requirements through each step of the dissertation.
Whether you are attending a program online or on campus, upon successful completion of all coursework and successful defense of your dissertation findings, you will be granted the title of “doctor” and looked upon as an expert in your field.
